Agrik

"Lord of the Four Horsemen, Master of the V'hir, Immortal Warlord of Balgashang, Breeder of Plague, Squalor, and Decay, Reasonless Reaper, Tyrant of the Foul Chamber, Knower of the Ten Thousand Ways."

The Agrikan Priest Egan looked over this fresh crop of recruits for the Copper Hook. 'War, raping, pillaging, torture, these are all things that your personal enjoyment can be extracted from. But!' He gazes sternly over the men and women, looking each in the eye with a hard look, 'The Warlord has little care of your enjoyment, in fact he has none at all!. You are about to serve our Lord, and I will now explain to you the real reasons we do what it is we do.

I am sure you all have already heard how it was Agrik who -stopped- the war amongst the greater gods, saving our world for us to come. He promised the Greater God that Agrik himself would see to it that all is conquered for this God, and is why we always carry our sacred flame with us, a symbol of that greater god. Did any of the other lesser gods dare to step into the debate of the greater gods, or attempt to stop them from destroying everything? Of course not, they are weaklings and cowards, like those who would follow them now. Of course they immediately set out to grab land and to try to defy Agrik from completing his mission. But Agrik, the strongest of all the Gods will send his armies, us, and we will take back what is rightfully his. The Laranians seek to thwart us at every turn. Look east, out into Kaldor, where the Laranian church has so brainwashed its people that they gladly live under the tyranny of the nobility. Noble... bah! Larani and her staunch defense of protecting their social class structure, to keep the rich rich, and the poor feeding the rich.' Egan shakes his head, looking over his students for any reaction. Seeing none he continues, 'They tell their people stories about us, how we rape women and pillage towns. Of course we do! How else do you hold onto what it is you have gained without beating them soundly? You do not just knock a man who wishes to kill you down, then turn your back on them. No, you continue to beat the man after he falls, beating him soundly, even killing him. An enemy who escapes is one who will return to try again. We do this for Agrik, so we do not lose what we have gained for him. We are not warmongers." Egans looks around again, waiting for any reaction. 'A successful surrender by an enemy quickly means no loss of resources, and that we may move quickly to conquer more. Peace is what we strive for. One world under one rule. War would be at an end then, and Agrik's promise will have been kept. Now recite the prayer with me....'

God of war, pain, pillage and fire; Agrik is an evil god who enjoys the destructive aspects of battle and warfare. Agrik's followers are bent on perfecting the art of combat and inflicting pain so that they may bend others to their will. Pictured as a scallop-winged demon enshrouded in flame, Agrik is said to lack two claws; cut from his hand during battle with his arch-enemy, the Goddess Larani.

Agrik's church has many factions, the strife and rivalry within the church is often as great as their battles against other churches. Most factions, or orders, sponsor a fighting order composed of soldiers and "knights." In combat, the forces of Agrik will use any treachery to secure victory.

The goddess Larani is despised by Agrik, and a blood feud exists between the two deities. This is reflected in the actions of the church; both churches have skirmished for centuries.

The worship of Agrik is illegal in many lawful and good kingdoms, and is frequently punished by death. The means of execution is usually burning at the stake, an irony not lost by most Agrikan followers who meet that fate.
